On 1 January 2023, new requirements came into force in the building regulations. Here, among other things, two new paragraphs have been introduced in relation to a mandatory life cycle analysis (LCA) and a CO2 limit value of 12 CO/m2 for new construction over 1,000 m2

 

What is an EPD?

 

EPD stands for Environmental Product Declaration. The EPD is a standardized and internationally recognized document that provides transparent and verified information on the environmental impact of industries and products.

 

The information is based on a comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA), which assesses everything from raw material extraction, production, use and disposal. The results of the LCA are presented in the EPD, which includes information on the product's environmental impact in categories such as greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption and resource consumption.

 

Architects and builders can use EPDs as a tool to compare and select products with lower environmental impact. EPDs provide objective and verified data that helps architects and builders make more informed decisions during the design and construction phases.
